I have had several requests for some video demonstrations of the Adaptive Overlay chapter from my book Melodic Stick Control.  You can learn about the concepts and hear me demonstrate them with two 12 bar exercises from my book in MSC Video 13 on the Home Page.  I also included a short solo and accomanying PDF showing some of my favorite ways to use some of the Adaptive Overlay concept.

I got together with and drummed with my good friend (and great drummer) Dave Natal this month and he turned me on to some grooves that weren’t on my radar.  “Capetown” (Will Kennedy) & #41 (Carter Beauford).  These are two of my favorite drummers, and both play “open handed” with their left hand on the ride, so the transcriptions are geared towards those of us with a right handed ride approach.  Check out the album and live links below, and download my adapted transcriptions from my Groove Trancriptions page -.

A good friend (and great drummer!) of mine Alex Blake turned me on to an insane La Guira performance on YouTube, and I have finally gotten around to transcribing it.  I have added this transcription to the Expert category of the Melody Rhythm Reading page – I love practicing this one with brushes!
