I finished out 2025 with one more edited video from my Fixed Stick Control clinic with Gregg Bissonette.  This video demonstrates some jazz coordination applications of the FSC concepts culminating in the Chapter exercise that uses the language/rhythms of jazz improvisation (free PDF included on the Youtube channel description).  You can watch the video on the FSC support page HERE, or watch/subscribe to the Youtube channel HERE.

I usually curate my own Groove Etymology categories, but I love Zoro’s 2007 poster that traces the roots of R&B back to 1946.  While Zoro included a transcription of every groove on the poster, I decided to do the work myself, and actually augmented the transcriptions with some of the secondary grooves of each song (i.e. chorus’, verses, bridges, etc.). This resulted in a 6 page, 2 month endeavor.  You can check out the new addition on the Groove Etymology Page.

Video support for my new book Fixed Stick Control continues this month with some applications for Steve Gadd’s Ratacmacue drumset orchestration (inspired by Steve Gadd’s classic video “Up Close”). At the end, I demonstrate the rhythms of Gadd’s “Aja” drum solo, with a “Gaddamcue” fixed sticking – which is the final exercise of the “Quintessential Licks” chapter.  Check it out HERE.

I am slowly editing and adding music excerpts to the clinic videos that cover material from both of my books – Melodic Stick Control and Fixed Stick Control.  This month I finished #2, and you can check out the edited versions of Video 1 (The “What”) and Video 2 (Developing Musical Flow) on the Fixed Stick Control support page HERE.

In order to make decent videos supporting my new book Fixed Stick Control (FSC), I spent the majority of my free time this month learning the ins-and-outs of key framing in Final Cut Pro (FCP).  You can check out the first fruits of those efforts in FSC Clinic Video 1 HERE!  Don’t forget to like and subscribe!
