Basic Rebound Control
After teaching a beginner how to hold drum sticks, I spend a considerable amount of time teaching them how to hit the drum properly, and training their wrists how to respond in a relaxed fashion to the energy created from hitting the drum. This requires some basic exercises involving individual strokes (with rests in-between) and sequential/continuous strokes. It is also important that the exercises be easy to memorize so that all focus can be put on technique. Below are two versions of the exercises that I use to accomplish this.
